About the Director, Dr Sarah Carr FRSA
I’m a highly regarded researcher in the field of mental health and social care with over 20 years’ experience of working in the public, charity and academic sectors. I offer a distinctive combination of lived experience, research expertise and extensive knowledge of the field.
I have wide experience of conducting qualitative research projects, surveys, service evaluations, research reviews and policy analysis as well as advising on patient and public involvement and engagement strategies.
As an academic I led and collaborated on significant social work research studies and mental health research projects. I have delivered education and training in social care, social work and mental health.
Before going into independent research, I was Senior Fellow in Mental Health Policy at the University of Birmingham and Associate Professor in Mental Health Research at Middlesex University. Before I moved into the university sector, I was a Senior Research Analyst at the Social Care Institute for Excellence.
I’m Visiting Senior Research Fellow, Department of Health Service and Population Research, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College London. I’m also a Senior Fellow of the National Institute for Health Research, School for Social Care Research (NIHR SSCR) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). I sit on the editorial advisory board of Disability and Society journal and was a member of the editorial advisory board of The Lancet Psychiatry.
I’m a contributor to the UNESCO Inclusive Policy Lab and was Co-chair of the National Survivor User Network (NSUN) for England.
